BERNAMA~Smart School Programme Extended To Rural Areas
CYBERJAYA, March 31 (Bernama) -- After 88 schools have been chosen for the smart school programme, the Education Ministry is extending the programme to 15 rural schools nationwide.
The schools were expected to be announced at the project launching scheduled in April, said Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) chief executive officer, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali.
He said out of the 15, two schools, Sekolah Menengah Ampang Pecah in Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor and Sekolah Kebangsaan Felda Palong 14 in Gemas, Negeri Sembilan were selected as the showcase.
Among the benefits that these two schools would enjoy included notebooks, wireless Internet connection (Wi-Fi) and wireless digital communication system (WiMAX), he said.
"We want the two schools to be the showcase as we know rural schools may have other problems like electricity supply disruption.
"We want to study how we can rectify or minimise the problems, and if the ministry agrees, the same facilities may be extended to the other 13 schools," he said during the soft launch of the programme, here, Tuesday.
Besides MDeC, which is the facilitator and coordinator for the smart school programme, more than 10 sponsors with sponsorship worth RM1.4 million have agreed to the one-year project of upgrading the schools in terms of infrastructure, hardware and software, which will be implemented immediately.
